Book Nook: “The Kingdoms of Savannah” by George Dawes Green

George Dawes Green made his third appearance on the program to discuss his latest novel, Savannah Kingdoms. George grew up just up the road from Savannah, Georgia, and he knows that town well.

I have a history with George. Twenty-seven years ago, he was one of the first authors I ever interviewed. He came to our area on a reading tour for his novel Swear and he stopped by our studios to do a live interview. He had published his first book the previous year and one would have thought that his next book would come out in the near future. But that was not the case. George had gotten a movie contract, he traveled a lot, he was busy doing other things.

I finally told him about his next novel, “Ravens,” which came out in 2009. For the next 13 years, I waited for him to publish another. Once again, George was busy with other projects, such as founding “The Moth”. It’s true, George is the mastermind behind these storytelling events and it has kept him very busy. Moth Radio Hour is a fairly popular show on public radio.

This latest novel was well worth the wait. It’s a beautifully written mystery. George Dawes Greene never lets me down. I just hope I don’t have to wait another 13 years for the next book!
