Book scene: Allmendinger returns with “Past & Present Yakima” | arts and entertainment

It’s always fun to learn the history of the city where you live and/or where you come from. It’s even better when you see through pictures how much this city has changed and how preserved it has been.

That’s what Ellen Allmendinger brings to her readers with her latest book, “Past & Present Yakima.” a must for lovers of Yakima history and/or history in general.

For those unfamiliar with Allmendinger, she is a local writer passionate about our local history. His books and walking tours have helped keep Yakima’s story alive. She is also the author of “Murder & Mayhem in Central Washington,” where she tells the stories that once made it the harshest region in the Pacific Northwest; and the author of “Hidden History of Yakima”, where she explores forgotten events, buildings, businesses and people who helped shape Yakima.

On Saturday, April 23, Allmendinger will be at Inklings Bookshop to sign his books and talk to readers about his inspiration behind “Past & Present Yakima” and his eye-catching photographs.

Says Allmendinger: “’Past & Present Yakima’ consists of comparative photos of downtown Yakima. Each location contained in the book has a historical and current photo and description allowing readers to visualize the changes, or in some cases the preservation, of various locations in Yakima since the city was formed more than a year ago. century. Locations identified in the book include streets, government and historic buildings, and businesses. My latest book offers readers a wonderful way to identify the location of historic building sites past and present as well as the vibrancy of the city so long ago.

• “Past & Present Yakima” by Ellen Allmendinger will be published by Arcadia Publishing on Tuesday.April 19. It sells for $23.99.
