CUK Hosts Career Planning Conference and Extension Conference

Ganderbal, May 13: Department of Law, School of Legal Studies (SLS), Central University of Kashmir (CUK), organized a lecture on “Career Planning in Judicial Services”, in which Senior Judge, Family Court, Meerut, Mr Irfan Qamar, spoke on ‘Judicial Service Career’ on Thursday and also hosted an online outreach lecture on ‘Excellence in Law School and the Legal Profession’ by Ms Avani Bansal, Lawyer at the Supreme Court, here on Friday.

Speaking on this occasion, Judge M. Qamar referred to the judicial reviews carried out in the United States. Emphasizing the importance of learning the skill “legal writing” and “acquisition of knowledge”, he said that the candidates who appear for the judicial examination are not serious and that is the reason why the positions remain vacant. He encouraged students to choose the judiciary as an active career choice and said, “Judges and law students are on an equal footing; both are good listeners, tied in proper uniform, and are always taught by teachers in the case of students and learned lawyers in the case of judges”.

Dean, SLS, Professor Farooq Ahmad Mir, said: “Law students should be interested in judicial exams rather than administrative exams as the former deal with topics related to their own course. Professor M Yousuf, Dean of the School of Life Sciences, wished the students much success in their future endeavours. Adjunct Professors Dr. Yasir Latief led the proceedings, and Dr. Uzma Qadri led the stage while Dr. Shabina Arafat offered the vote of thanks.

Meanwhile, during the extension conference on “Excellence in Law School and the Legal Profession”, Vice Chancellor Prof. Farooq Ahmad Shah emphasized internship, curricula of practical training so that students benefit from the court of law.

The Registrar, Professor M Afzal Zargar, emphasized student participation in experiential learning, professional development skills such as advocacy and participation in legal literacy programs.

The Dean, SLS, Professor Farooq Ahmad Mir spoke about Ms. Bansal’s achievements as a Supreme Court Registered Advocate and author of the book “Life At Law School”.

In her talk, Ms. Avani Bansal talked about the largest law firm, Magic Circle Firms in the UK, about how they recruit aspiring lawyers. She impressed with her participation as a law student in all internships offered during her legal career and emphasized the importance of legal education as to how it teaches you to think like a specialist and to be the best lawyer.

The lecture was followed by a question-and-answer session. Assistant professors. Dr. Rehana Shawl, delivered the welcome address, Dr. Mudasir Bhat, introduced the speaker while Dr. Anil Kumar, Sr. Asst Prof offered the vote of thanks.
