Flos Greig Annual Lecture in Law
Flos Greig, the first Australian woman to be admitted to legal practice and alumnus of Melbourne Law School, was a trailblazer whose determination to practice as a lawyer advanced gender equality in the legal profession in Australia at the beginning of the 20th century.
To celebrate Greig’s achievements, Melbourne Law School is honored to create the annual Flos Greig Lecture, presented in partnership with Cornwalls. After graduating from Melbourne Law School in 1903, Greig began his articles with Frank Cornwall, later continuing his career with Cornwalls. Cornwalls’ involvement in this new series of lectures recognizes Greig’s tenacious spirit which has transformed the basis for admission to the Australian legal profession.
The inaugural lecture on August 19, 2022 is presented by the Mayor of Melbourne, Sally Capp, titled The New Wave of Women in Politics: Extraordinary Women Shaping the Futureexploring the rise of female voices in Australian politics and leadership.
Our ambition is to establish this conference for the long term through philanthropic support, and we warmly invite donations of all sizes to make this possible.
