GDC Ukhralorganises Extension Lecture on ‘Female Infanticide: Causes and Preventions’

Ramban, July 2: The NSS unit at Government Degree College, Ukhralon, held an outreach conference on Saturday on “Female Infanticide: Causes and Preventions” as part of the Union Government’s “Beti Bachao Beti Padhao” campaign to eradicate the heinous crime of female infanticide and the importance of girls’ education in society.

The program began with the national anthem and was followed by a welcome speech by Professor Zakir Hussain Naik, NSS Program Manager. He pointed out that the purpose of organizing this outreach conference is to promote gender equality, protection of girls, encourage girls’ education and improve the sex ratio of children.

The Principal of the College, Professor (Dr.) Ranvijay Singh was the guest of honor on the occasion. In his speech, he spoke about the growing injustice and exploitation of little girls. He stressed the need for girls’ education so that they can make their voices heard against the exploitation they face on a daily basis. Dr.Mussarat Jabeen, Convener Women Development Cell, from GDC Surakote was the resource person on the occasion.

In her lecture, she said that female infanticide is a heinous crime caused by various social evils like poverty, illiteracy, child marriage, abortion, ignorance, etc. of the people,” she said. She added that the government has put in place many initiatives and programs to eradicate discrimination against women:

“Beti Bachao Beti Padhao” is one of the initiatives of the government. of India that provides safety, security and education to little girls,” she informed. Dr. Musarrat also highlighted various preventive measures aimed at enhancing women’s empowerment and girls’ education and ending gender differences in society.

A large number of students and faculty members have participated in the program, including Professor Shafiq Ahmad Katoch, the College’s IQAC Coordinator.

The program was moderated by Prof. Suresh ChanderHoD Dogri, while the formal vote of thanks was presented by Prof. Iftikhar Hussain Lone HoDEngli. Technical support was provided by Farooq Ahmed Katoch.
