MDENGOSIBA Trust, in collaboration with Lupane State University, will hold the inaugural Mzilikazi lecture this Friday as part of the commemorations of the 154e anniversary of the death of the founder of the Ndebele Kingdom.

Commemorations are held on September 10 each year.

Mdengosiba Trust recently wrote to Bulawayo City Council requesting free use of the Grand City Hall for the launch of the public conference.

“Mdengosiba Trust is registered under this protocol number 15/20. The Trust has embarked on the establishment of a King Mzilikazi School of Leadership in Bulawayo. Under these auspices, Mdengosiba Trust is launching a series of annual King Mzilikazi Lectures.

“The inaugural lesson is scheduled for September 9, 2022 for half a day only, to coincide with the commemoration of King Mzilikazi which will be celebrated on September 10, 2022.

The Trust intends to elevate the King Mzilikazi Lecture to a very high academic standard.

“Through this letter, we invite the City of Bulawayo to partner with the Trust to launch the King Mzilikazi Conference. The trust currently has no funds, although we have embarked on an intensive fundraising programme,” reads part of the trust’s letter to Bulawayo City Council.

The Trust has asked the town fathers to avail themselves of the town hall for the event.

“While requesting a donation from the Grande Mairie, we wish to reserve it provisionally for September 9 from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. The Inaugural Lesson will adopt a hybrid form of transmission. He (Conference) should elevate our culture and our history.

“It should take the city of Bulawayo to a higher level by supporting and associating with the identity of its people and participating in what is planned to attract both local and international audiences,” the letter continues.

Councilors have agreed to give the Trust a 25% discount for the launch of the Mzilikazi conference.
