New Report Reveals Suspected Terror Threats in Amphitheaters and Internet Spaces

Education Students Terrorism

The country’s security agencies have urged students to be vigilant and report any suspected threats of terrorism in their lecture halls and internet spaces.

They said insecurity has increasingly become a major problem in the Sahel region as terrorists continue to carry out attacks, where people mainly gather like schools and churches.

These agencies, made up of officials from the Ghana Immigration Service, Ghana Armed Forces, Ghana Police Service and National Security, made the call during a student forum, where the questions of activism and terrorism were discussed.

The forum which has been dubbed: “Fire Side Chat” was organized by Academic City Radio of Academic City University College in collaboration with Asaase Radio to educate students on their role in fighting the threat.

The initiative is in line with the See Something, Say Something campaign launched by National Security.
Chief Superintendent, Mr. Michael Amoako Atta, Public Relations Officer of the Ghana Immigration Service, said any attack in schools and halls would not only halt school activities but could destroy lives and property.

“I will ask you, students, that when you see things that are not normal in your communities, hostels and lecture halls, don’t just see it, but say something,” he said.

Commander Philip Odoi-Narh, Acting Director of the Strategic Intelligence Department of Defense Intelligence of the Ghana Armed Forces, has called on students to be vigilant about internet seduction and recruitment.

He said that to strengthen national cohesion and the resilience of countries, it was important that the actions of all citizens, including international students, contribute to building the necessary resilience against threats.

He also warned students never to congregate at the scene of an attack or take responsibility for citizen journalists for the purpose of filming and broadcasting the incident.

“We shouldn’t just be quick to do this, normally in a complex terror attack the first incident will just be to bring people together so they can now launch the real attack,” he added.
