Dignitaries after conference on “human organ donation”.

JAMMU, September 2: Shri Mata Vaishno Devi College of Nursing (SMVDCN), Kakryal, Katra in collaboration with State Organ and Tissue Transplant Organization (SOTTO) J&K organized an awareness conference on “Human Organ Donation” today on its campus, which was attended by professors and students from the college.
Dr. Shailla Cannie, Director and Dean of the SMVDCN, welcomed all the dignitaries and spoke about the importance of human organ donation.
Dr. Sanjeev Puri, co-director SOTTO J&K was the guest speaker on the occasion. While addressing the assembly, he explained “National Organ Transplantation Program (NOTP)”. He explained that when a person becomes brain dead due to a traffic accident, brain hemorrhage, cardiac arrest or many other reasons in a hospital and they are on system ICU support, that person’s organs and tissues remain alive and artificially maintained, once you remove the, support, that person, is dead. This person, in accordance with the Organ and Tissue Transplantation Act 1994 (THOTA), is declared dead.
The donation of organs and tissues from such a person by the family can save up to 8 human beings in the end stage of organ failure. He emphasized the importance of organ donation and dispelled common misconceptions and myths about organ donation. He inspired everyone to engage their bodies.

The Principal congratulated the guest speaker, Dr. Sanjeev Puri, Anshu Sharma, IEC/Media Consultant, Irfan Ahmed Lone, Transplant Coordinator and Program Assistant Nisha Kumari for their exemplary work for humanity.
