Nepal Academy extends duration of book exhibition

KATHMANDU: The duration of a book exhibition organized on the occasion of the 65th anniversary of the Nepal Academy has been extended until Bhanu Jayanti, the anniversary of the birth of Adikavi Bhanubhakta Acharya.

According to event manager Sudhir Dhungel, the book fair which started on June 19 was originally scheduled for 15 days. Now it has been extended to July 13 (Asar 29).

The duration has been extended in view of the growing public interest. The exhibition is said to attract a huge number of visitors every day. Books of various categories ranging in price from Rs 3 to Rs 2,070 were put up for sale at the exhibition.

They belong to the genres linguistics, literature, children’s literature, review, criticism, science, culture, translation and philosophy.

About 500 varieties also including encyclopedias and dictionaries are available in the exhibition which offers 15% discount on purchase of Nepali Brihat Sabdakosh (Dictionary) and Pragya Nepali-English Dictionary.

The English version of the novel ‘Hitler Ra Yahudi (Hitler and the Jews)’ by writer BP Koirala is also on sale.

Similarly, a discount of up to 40% has been offered in Academy publications for 49 years.

At least three book fairs per year are on the Academy’s calendar.

About 300 people visit the event and the Academy sells products worth Rs 20,000 daily, Dhungel told RSS. (RSS)
